Born in Ballina on the 31st of January 1944, Max was a member the gun tractor driver for ‘C’ gun detachment during 105th Field Battery’s first tour of duty in South Vietnam. Max served in Vietnam from the 4th of March 1966 until the 24th of September 1966. A large turnout of 105th Association members attended Max’s funeral on the 20th of December 2007. There was a large roll up of family and friends and a large representation from 105th Field Battery members from both tours of Vietnam. Padre Ray Chapman, himself a past member of ‘C’ detachment, conducted the service. Following a beautiful service, the pall bearers comprised a complete ‘C’ gun detachment including Ian Morley, Ian James, Jason Neville, Frank Gulyus, Terry Hanson, Jock Fearon and Ray Chapman. Members of 105th Battery Association formed a guard of honour as the hearse drove off.
Max had been an active member of the 105th Battery Association and the RSL.
