Warrant Officer Class One John F. Wilson
         
I was born in Adelaide in 1938 and at the age of 14 I was indentured as a carpenter joiner.  I left the trade at the end of 1958 and joined the army in Feb 1959.

 

         
Australian Regular Army Service Details:
     
February 1959 Enlisted into the Australian Regular Army – 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka; followed by Initial Corps Training at the School of Artillery.
August 1959 Posted to A Field Battery Cadre, 1st Field Regiment, Holsworthy, as a driver/ signaller-linesman.
March 1960 Posted to 101st Field Battery in Butterworth, Malaya, as a driver
November 1961 Returned to Australia and remained in 101st Field Battery, 4th Field Regiment, at Wacol, Brisbane.
July 1962 Promoted to Bombardier and posted as a bombardier signaller in Headquarter Battery, 4th Field Regiment.
February 1964 Promoted to Sergeant and posted as the Signal Sergeant 105th Field Battery, 4th Field Regiment.
March 1965 Posted to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka, as a Platoon Sergeant.
September 1966 Posted to 4th Field Regiment, Wacol, as the Signal Sergeant 106th Field Battery.
April 1967 Deployed to South Vietnam with 106th Field Battery (advance of 4th Field Regiment).
July 1968 Posted to the Guided Weapons Trial’s Unit, Woomera, to work on the European Launcher Development Organisation project as an assistant Launcher Officer.
January 1970 Promoted to Warrant Officer Class 2 and posted to the 2nd Recruit Training Battalion.
January 1972 Posted to 7th Field Regiment, Sydney, as an Assistant Instructor-in-Gunnery.
November 1975 Posted to 4th Field Regiment, Townsville, as the Battery Sergeant-Major, 107th Field Battery.
September 1978 Promotged to Warrant Officer Class 1 and posted to 10th Medium Regiment, Geelong, as the Regimental Sergeant-Major.
November 1980 Posted to 4th Field Regiment as the Regimental Sergeant-Major.
December 1981 Posted to the School of Artillery as the Regimental Sergeant-Major.
December 1983 Moved to Townsville and took discharge in July 1984.
     
In August 1984 I took work as an owner driver for an overnight courier company, I didn't think it would last but it did for the following 10 years.
     
My wife Denise and I then moved to Ballina on the NSW north coast and whilst there decided to take up caravanning and we travelled Australia.
     
We are now back in Townsville and enjoying life to its fullest. I play golf 3 days a week and enjoy the odd cruising the seas.
