REGIMENTAL SERGEANT-MAJORS

Warrant Officer Class One Keith Cossart
         
Keith Cossart although born in Sydney in 1933 grew up in Queensland where his father (Leslie Cossart) was stationed with the Permanent Military Forces. He was educated for brief periods from 1938 to 1941 at Woolowin, Caloundra, Gatton, Beaudesert and Ascot State Schools.

In 1942 he went to the Church of England Boys’ School in Toowoomba as a Boarder (and to Southport where the school was located from April 1942 to December 1943 when the Australian Army occupied the Toowoomba school premises) where he remained until mid 1946 when he attended the Church of England Grammar School in Brisbane until the end of 1946. He then attended Gatton High School until joining the Australian Regular Army in 1949.

He took discharge from the ARA in 1976 after completing 27 years of continuous service to take up employment with the NRMA and was later on the staff of the Australian War Memorial until his final retirement in 1992.                    

 

         

Army Services:

28 July 1949 Enlisted in the ARA as an Army Apprentice and on 17 March 1952 transferred to the Royal Australian Artillery at the School of Artillery North Head, Sydney for Corps training.
09 September 1952 Posted to 1st Field Regiment at Georges Heights, Sydney

07 January 1954 Promoted to Temporary Bombardier

06 July 1954 Posted to the ARA Cadre Staff of 3 Light Regiment (later designated 23 Light Regiment)

27 August 1956 Promoted to substantive Sergeant on posting to Army Headquarters (Melbourne), Directorate of Artillery (postings of Clerk Tech ((WO2))
07 June 1957 Posted to 1 Field Regiment and attended and qualified "C" at the WO Gunnery (Field) Course at the School of Artillery (10 June - 20 August 1957)
02 September 1957 Posted to the ARA Cadre Staff HQ RAA 1 Corps
17 October 1958 Promoted Temporary Staff Sergeant
26 August 1960 Posted to HQ RAA 1 Div
26 August 1961 Promoted to Staff Sergeant
17 October 1963 Posted to 4 Field Regiment, Wacol Queensland and promoted Warrant Officer Class Two as the TSMD Tp 105 Field Battery. Attended Exercise "Tasman 3" in New Zealand with 16 Field Regiment RNZA as Battery Guide of 105 Field Battery during the period 10 September to 19 October 1964
12 April 1965 Posted to 1 Field Regiment, Holsworthy as TSM A Tp, A Field Battery
09 July 1965 Posted as BSM HQ Battery
26 April 1966 Posted to 131 Divisional Locating Battery as Battery Sergeant Major

16 Jun 1970 Posted to Army Headquarters, Canberra and promoted to Temporary Warrant Officer Class One in the Directorate of Equipment Policy
