Ron was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 9th Field Artillery Brigade RAA (Militia) on 29 Sep 1938. The transferred to 2/1st Field Regiment AIF on 13 October 1939. He was promoted Temporary Captain on 10 August 1941 and substantive on 20 November 1941. He was an instructor RAA training Deport AIF (Middle East) from 10 January 1940 to 24 September 1942 when he was transferred to 16th Australian Field Regiment AIF and promoted Major on 24 October 1942. 16 Field Regiment was part of 1st Armoured Division based in Western Australia.
Ron transferred to 2/8th Field Regiment (Jungle Division) AIF on 14 September 1944 and to 1/9th Field Regiment (Jungle Division) AIF on 23 March 1945. He completed his war service on 15 August 1945.
With the formation of the Citizens Military Force (CMF) he joined 7th Field Regiment as 2IC on 1 May 1948 and then was on the Reserve of Officers from 10 September 1952 to 6 May 1955 when he was appointed CBO, 130 Counter Bombardment Staff Troop. Later that year he was promoted Temporary LTCOL as SORA1 CCBO 130 CB Staff Troop. His promotion was confirmed on 6 December 1956. Ron joined the RAA Association NSW on 19 November 1948. |
