Rex was born in Brisbane on 3 December 1928. He served with Headquarters, 1st British Commonwealth Division in Korea as an OP pilot between 5 November 1952 and 5 May 1953. Later in his career, Rex attended Gunnery Staff Training at the Royal School of Artillery in Lark Hill, UK. On return to Australia his postings included The School of Artillery at North Head; Adjutant of 6 Field Regiment in Tasmania and BMRA 3 Division in Victoria.
Rex attended Staff College before a change of direction and became the OC of Ops Flight, 16 Army Light Aviation Squadron. He was later appointed Commanding Officer of 1 Aviation Regiment and later became the Commander of the Army Aviation Centre, Oakey. In the 1965 Queens Birthday Honours, he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.
Rex’s final posting was as Commander 2nd Military District from where he retired in August 1981. He retired to a life of fishing and crabbing in the Ormiston district of Brisbane. Rex was in palliative care at the Finlandia Village Rest Home at Thornlands in Brisbane prior to his death on the 1st of May, 2001.
Rex is survived by his wife Ann, two sons and six grandchildren.
