Historical Specifics: The 3.7 inch AA gun was first produced in 1937. The main equipment of the Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiments was the 3.7 inch AA gun which came in two versions, static and mobile. The gun fired a 49 lb (22.2 kg) 3.7 inch (94 mm) round (shell weight 28 lb (12.7 kg)) to an effective height of 25,000 ft (7,600 metres). The muzzle velocity was 2,670 ft/sec (814 m/sec). Maximum rate of fire was between 12 and 15 per minute. Nine men manned the gun in action.

The complexity of the mobile carriage was the reason Australia only produced the Static version of this gun completing a total of 600. The mobile carriage came in two versions the Mark I, initial production, and an improved Mark 3.

The mobile version of the gun remained in service in the CMF Heavy Anti-aircraft units following World War II and were finally taken out of service in 1957.
