The 2 pounder anti tank gun was first issued to anti tank units in 1939. With the introduction of heavier anti tank guns the 2 pounders were transferred to the infantry. They were taken out of service in 1951. Over 1000 of these guns were issued of which 892 were manufactured locally.
The guns were used in the Middle east, Greece, Malaya, New Guinea and the islands during World War II. Their maximum effective range against armour was 500 metres (600 yards). |
