Historical Specifics: |
Five 12 pounder howitzers of 10 cwt are first recorded in NSW in 1870. In subsequent reports some appear to retain the 10 cwt ratings whilst others are listed as 9 cwt. This howitzer’s weight is marked at 10-0-0. In the 1901 report of the Military Committee of Inquiry howitzer 81 is listed as one of four howitzers located at Dawes Battery for use as the Saluting battery. They fired a 21 gun salute during celebrations marking the Federation of Australia in 1901. |
