Historical Specifics: The howitzer was captured by the 1st Australian Light horse at Mafrak, Palestine on 16 October 1918. The barrel is split at the muzzle probably due to the Turkish forces rendering it useless to avoid it being used by the Australian forces. During restoration Turkish markings were found on the gun but these are yet to be examined. The gun is likely to have been manufactured in Turkey under licence from Krupp. It appears to be derivative of German sFH 02.

The German 150 mm Howitzer sFH 02 was derived from the Model 93 which when introduced in 1893 was already outdated due to improvements in guns produced by the French which introduced the recoil system. The model 02 was provided with a recoil system but had no shield. Krupp was not adverse to selling his wares to other countries, though the calibre was sometimes different and improvements were added. This is possible with this Turkish gun due to the provision of a shield.
