| Historical Specifics: |
In 1904 this gun was presented to Parramatta for their Boer War Memorial. The gun has the Royal Cypher of King George IV on 1st re-inforce and Cypher of Field Marshall Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, Master General of the Ordnance on the chase. The barrel is 6 feet in length with dolphins and fitted for elevating gear under the cascable.
Four bronze 9 Pounder guns of 13 cwt were used in NSW (and two in South Australia). The NSW guns were introduced into service about 1854 and by 1861 are shown as being located at Dawes Battery, although more then likely they were mounted on field carriages. They were still being used by the ‘D’ (Cadet) Battery in 1897. In the 1901 Report the four guns are shown as being located at the School of Gunnery at Victoria Barracks, Paddington. |
