Historical Specifics: This gun is undoubtedly one of the many 25 pounders sold by Defence and purchased by RSL Clubs throughout Australia and thanks to Mr Max Ferres we are informed it has been at the Club since 1966. Whilst the early history of this gun is unknown we can say that it saw service with F troop of R battery, 21st Field Regiment and at one time the No 1 (person in charge) of the gun was Sergeant Alan Smith. He recognised the gun due to damage incurred to the buffer cradle caused when the gun was fired at Singleton range in March 1953. The ‘stops running back’, a metal bar used to prevent the barrel slipping back when the gun is being towed, should have been unbolted when the gun is to be fired. On this occasion it had gone unnoticed and hence when the gun fired the barrel in recoil struck the item.

The firing platform is missing.
