Historical Specifics: The continuing improvements to tank armour saw the earlier 2 pdr and 6 pdr anti tank guns becoming less effective in destroying tanks and resulted in the 17 pounder anti tank gun being introduced into British service in September 1942. Australia received pilot models in 1943 and an order was placed on Australian Industry to produce 480 guns. However, this was reduced to 128 as the threat had reduced in the Pacific theatre. Australian Forces took the 17 Pounder with them to Korea.

The gun was capable of firing 20 rounds per minute and had a detachment of 7 men. It was withdrawn from service in 1962.
